New survey says India’s Modi continues to be widely popular
National Conference Monday said that Uri terror attack may be a “conspiracy” and its timing is “suspicious” because it coincided with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif heading to the UN General Assembly to talk about “human rights violations” in Kashmir. The country offered condolences to the families of the victims and wished a rapid recovery to all those injured.

In January, seven military personnel were killed when six terrorists attacked the Pathankot air base.
India has put the blame on Pakistan for the Sunday morning attack, with the Prime Minister asserting that the perpetrators will not go unpunished. But these issues were now being addressed by the Chinese and Indian governments under a new mechanism worked out during Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to India, he said.
India had reacted strongly to the deadliest attack on the Army in Jammu and Kashmir that sparked an outrage with the prime minister strongly condemning it.
Four militants involved in the terror strike were killed by the Army.
Since 1989, Kashmiri resistance groups in IHK have been fighting against Indian rule for independence, or for unification with neighboring Pakistan. After the U.S. and U.K.’s statements of condemnation on Sunday, France, Canada, Russia and China issued strong statements supporting India on Monday, even as France and China called for talks between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir dispute.
“I am deeply disappointed with Pakistan’s continued and direct support to terrorism and terrorist groups”, home minister Rajnath Singh said in a tweet, signaling further hardening of stand.
The attack has triggered some tough rhetoric in India.
Bhutan said it is “deeply concerned” at the “despicable” terror attack on Uri in India and called for the need to step up global cooperation to combat terrorism. The action has to be taken without getting influenced by emotions, anger.
That did not placate New Delhi.
Sources said India could raise the Uri attack at the United Nations General Assembly, which is in session in NY. A wreath laying function for 17 soldiers martyred in Uri terror attack was concluded with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti laying wreaths on the coffins of the brave-hearts.

Modi is under pressure to live up to his 2014 election campaign rhetoric of showing Pakistan that India is not a “soft power” and would give a “befitting reply” to any attacks on the country.
