Samsung said on Monday a Galaxy Note 7 phone a Chinese user claimed caught on fire was damaged by external heating.

ATL gave no indication of what may have caused the problems. It’s not evident what else would cause the fires but it could be a lack of proper heat dissipation or overheating of other components as a result of similar issues.
Last week, Samsung recalled 1,858 Note 7 phones in China from a different batch that had been distributed before general sales began.
The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have made headlines of late for their blazing-fast performance, blowing pretty much every other phone out of the water when it comes to benchmarks. Fortunately, the company has come up with a way for users to find out if their smartphone devices are likely to suffer a similar fate and explode on overheating.

Customers of the nation’s three mobile carriers – SK Telecom Co., KT Corp. and LG Uplus Corp – began exchanging their Galaxy Note 7s for new ones at outlets across the country after receiving mobile notifications from the carriers, said the officials. Users in possession of one of the recalled phones can visit the Samsung website for more details about Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 US exchange program.
This doesn’t quite make sense to many within the tech industry because the Note 7 was slated to beat the iPhone 7 in sales – something new for both companies. It is also specific to major carriers in the US, meaning that the timetable may be different in other markets, as it is for Korea.

Samsung Electronics launched the Note 7 phone in China on September 1 amid a growing number of reports of the phones catching fire in other nations. Upon the official announcement of recall by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, CPSC Chairman, Elliot Kaye stated that the 3,500mAh housed within the Galaxy Note 7 was too large for its chassis, which then lead to the malfunction, according to Bloomberg. Certain customers have been turned away due to them purchasing the Note 7 from another location or through one of the online retailers.
