The head of Slovenia’s football association Aleksander Ceferi, was elected the new president at the governing body’s 12th extraordinary congress here, reports Sputnik.

“My family is very proud of me”, Ceferin said after his victory was confirmed.

“I hope one day you will be proud of me too”.

‘Thirdly, I would change the bidding process for big competitions and finals for the Champions League, European Championship and other major events.

Under the agreement, UEFA has increased the number of slots allocated in the Champions League tournament to clubs from Spain, England, Germany and Italy, which are football’s traditional power-houses in Europe.

Michel Platini, who was accused of ethical violation, was held guilty in December 2015 for accepting a payment of 2 million Swiss Francs ($2m) from Federation Internationale de Football Association in 2011.

Uefa and European clubs recently agreed changes to the Champions League that will heavily favour the big four leagues, but it has angered the European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL), who believe this will have a detrimental effect on the continent’s smaller leagues.

Despite Platini’s ban from all football-related activities, he was allowed to give an outgoing speech at the congress in Athens, in which he professed innocence.

Ceferin becomes the seventh president in UEFA’s history. It’s a single sport which belongs to each and every one of us so I encourage you today to keep that fight going for the health of football.

Platini recalled: “Simon Peres said “Jerusalem is a flame”, when he addressed our UEFA Congress in 2010″. “I want to thank everyone in this room who had the courage and loyalty to support me during the past months”.

Another “coincidental connection”, she says, is the appointment of Tomaz Vesel – “another Slovenian whom Fifa just appointed to independently audit its annual income, and Infantino’s salary and bonuses” – who plays for the same football team as Ceferin.

“We have to speak and have dialogue with the clubs and I think it can be solved”. “We have done much together for nine years to develop and preserve this flame”. “We want a different Uefa, we want a better Uefa – but he wanted to do it his way and I wanted to do it my way”.
