23-year-old Irving Lucien Fenner Jr. of Grover, North Carolina, was arrested early this morning. In Maryville, Tenn., last month, an officer responding to a domestic disturbance was killed, and others have been killed responding to a report of gunfire in Kansas, serving a warrant in SC and serving an eviction notice in Colorado.

Brackeen became the 40th law enforcement officer fatally shot this year, ahead of the 38 such deaths at this point last year, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, which tracks line-of-duty deaths.

The Rhode Island State Police tactical team raided a house in Providence late Tuesday night but it turned out Fenner was not there. Fenner’s uncle Corry Peeler and his girlfriend Hope Wyman were charged with harboring a criminal.

Fenner was previously wanted on outstanding warrants out of Shelby for kidnapping, burglary, and robbery charges.

State Police Major Joseph Philbin said he called the Shelby, N.C. police department in the middle of the night to tell them they had captured Fenner. She is charged with harboring a fugitive.

Funeral services have been announced for fallen Shelby police Officer Tim Brackeen.

‘If he pulls thru this, it will only be because God steps in and does the impossible, ‘ she wrote. However, officers told the news station that Fenner did not suffer the injury in his capture, but most likely was shot during the encounter with Brackeen.

Fenner was charged with attempted murder in connection with Brackeen’s shooting.

Brackeen, a 12-year department veteran, was wearing a bulletproof vest when he was shot, officials said.

He is remembered in Shelby, some 45 miles west of Charlotte, for community classes and demonstrations alongside canine partner Ciko, the Shelby Star reported.

O’Donnell said he was glad his officers could deliver that news to Brackeen’s colleagues.

‘He was one of these guys who everybody admired and respected, ‘ the mayor continued. They don’t know how long the process will take.

‘We’re all going to miss him’. A GoFundMe page was set up for funds to help Tim’s wife Mikel and four-year-old daughter Daphne and $16,000 was raised by Monday. At the time of the shooting, he was assigned as a K-9 Officer.
