Game of Thrones makes Emmys history
At the Creative Arts Emmys, Netflix’s “Making a Murderer” won four awards – for Documentary or Nonfiction Series, Writing for a Nonfiction Program, Directing for a Nonfiction Program, and Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program – and the streaming service’s documentary “What Happened, Miss Simone?” won for Documentary or Nonfiction Special.

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” broke the records for the highest number of Emmy awards won by any fictional series. Not “good” because every single actual Emmy victor was actually more deserving than his or her fellow nominees.
“Thanks to Mark, we don’t have to watch reality shows anymore, because we’re living in one”, the late night host quipped.
“I’d like to dedicate this to my father. who passed away on Friday”, she said.
That’s a bold statement, but taking the success and popularity of “GoT” into account, Benioff is probably right on the money.
Jeffrey Tambor won best lead actor in a comedy series for his role in the Amazon series Transparent and urged the TV industry to provide more opportunities for transgender actors. After giving colleague The Night Manager’s Susanne Bier the award, the Thor actor, 35, exited the stage as cameras panned to John Mayer, another of Swift’s exes, who was jamming out on a guitar in the orchestra pit.
Sterling K. Brown also won for outstanding supporting actor in a limited series for his role as Christopher Darden in the “People v. O.J”.
“You must be bummed out”, said Damon, strolling onstage and nonchalantly eating an apple.
Part of the issue was that there were multiple nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actor categories, so the vote was split.
Host Jimmy Kimmel opened Sunday’s show with a string of jokes about Republican presidential contender and former “Celebrity Apprentice” host Donald Trump.
– Kimmel joking about the success of The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story and the current home of the 69-year-old Simpson, who is in prison for a robbery and kidnapping incident in Las Vegas. It was followed by FX Networks, which won 18 awards, half of which went to “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”, the year’s second most Emmy-honored series. You all are over here using your skills to protect best voiceover in a French sitcom. “I just wanted to see what you guys would do”. Damon jokingly asked Kimmel, 48.
Writing for a Comedy Series: Alan Yang and Aziz Ansari, “Master of None”. Birmingham-born John Oliver won best variety talk series for his HBO show Last Week Tonight, beating fellow Brit James Corden, who was nominated for The Late Late Show.
This year’s Emmys are among the most diverse ever with people of color nominated in every lead acting category.
“The responsibility of playing a real person is an enormous one”.
But if a good Emmys host succeeds on the strength of detachment, a good crop of nominees benefits from sincerity-and this year, over and over again, we were treated to speeches from deserving winners with meaningful things to say.
“Did you know you could make $12 an hour working for Uber?” a game Bush said, smiling.

Harington and Samberg teamed up onstage to put together sound bites for next year’s Emmys, and to be fair, this bit wasn’t hilarious-instead, it was so corny that it became glorious in its corniness.
