No. 1 Alabama ready for rest after hard-fought win
Top-ranked Alabama needed all 60 minutes to escape Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with a 48-43 win over No. 19 MS on Saturday. In the fourth quarter, the Rebels QB was under pressure and threw a ball right to Alabama’s 291-pound Allen, who ran the ball back for a 75-yard touchdown and a 48-30 Crimson Tide lead.

Alabama coach Nick Saban watched his top-ranked team fall behind by three touchdowns, then come roaring back Saturday.
In the third quarter, Alabama tied the game at 24 after Chad Kelly was hit at the one and fumbled the ball, which the Tide recovered and converted for a touchdown. Da’Ron Payne recovered for the Tide in the endzone for the score.
It didn’t help Colorado (2-1) that Sefo Liufau was hurt after throwing his third TD pass, a 70-yarder to Shay Fields that put Colorado up, 28-24, just after halftime. Now granted, defending a gunslinger like Chad Kelly can not be easy, but Kelly’s numbers were numbers that Saban did not like to see: 26-of-41, 421 yards, 48 yards rushing for a total of 469 yards and 3 TD’s. But the play was overturned and the Rebels settled for a field goal to tie it at 27-27 with 1:47 left in the third. Several Tide players came out of the game with injuries but thankfully, everyone should be good to go next week. Snell had 17 carries for 136 yards and four touchdowns. Into the second quarter of the game, the team’s quarterback had 34 rushing yards and the rest of the UA team had 23.
Just over a minute later, Eddie Jackson returned an Ole Miss punt 85 yards with 1:05 in the second quarter to trim the Rebels’ lead to 24-17, where it would stand for the half. “But we did not stop the run, and we did not take care of the ball”.
Alabama proved just why it is the No. 1 team in college football while Ole Miss showed its peskiness in the rivalry game yet again. I said if you guys really love each other, you’ll be able to overcome whatever you have to. “I thought that they competed”. Well, he didn’t need to have the best game of his career, but he did have himself one heck of a performance. Danny Etling completed 19 of 30 passes for 215 yards in his first start for host LSU, including a 37-yard touchdown strike to D.J. Chark. “I think we are so shorthanded on defense right now, and for the effort that the young kids gave today, I was real pleased”.
The second ranked University of West Georgia scored 21 unanswered points in a 34-24 victory over visiting Delta State in Saturday’s Gulf South Conference opener for both teams.
Coming off a victory over Ole Miss, Alabama is 3-0 on the season.
On Alabama’s ensuing drive, Hurts overthrew tight end Hale Hentges, who was wide open in the back of the end zone. The Gamecocks (2-1) also blocked a field goal to make a 17-0 lead they sprinted out to in the first seven minutes stick.
Last season, Stewart had 63 catches for 700 yards and four scores. “I knew I had a lot of space”. Stringfellow was called down at the 1-yard line after having the play initially ruled a touchdown. The Crimson Tide run defense was stout, and you can bet those Rebels will be sore tomorrow.
Hurts did a great deal of his damage on scrambles and Harris broke a 67-yard run.

But Alabama needed just three plays and 37 seconds to pull within 24-10 as Calvin Ridley ran for a 6-yard score.
