‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Veep’ win Emmys again, newcomers also feted

“Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus won her fifth straight Emmy for her role in the satirical White House comedy in which she plays a graspingly ambitious and inept president battling to stay in power. His opening skit included jokes with former GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush (“Did you know you can make $12 an hour driving for Uber?”) and his opening monologue tweaked Donald Trump by goofing on Mark Burnett, who created “The Apprentice”.

Paulson, who played prosecutor Marcia Clark, brought her as a guest and singled her out from the stage. “I’m so glad that he liked Veep, because his opinion was the one that really mattered”, she said.

Louis-Dreyfus apologized for what she called “the current political climate”, seven weeks before the presidential election.
