“Are you rooting for O.J.to win this time?”, Kimmel asked Clark. Awkward Bill Cosby moment that didn’t actually happen: His name was announced, and there was chatter – the camera zoomed in on Upper Darby’s Tina Fey – but only Kimmel appeared.
Despite her face showing up on the seating chart the day before, Beyonce was a no show at the awards where she was nominated for her visual album Lemonade. But hand it to Jill Soloway, creator of “Transparent”, for which she won a directing award: She managed the unheard-of feat of being both preachy and fun.
Leslie Jones later crashed the stage when the Emmy accountants made their usual speech about protecting the awards.
Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, said: “Huge congratulations to Sherlock and Susanne Bier, the director of The Night Manager, for their outstanding Emmy wins. If just a couple of you can get your kids cameras instead of violins, we’ll be all good”.
That put a dampener on British TV host John Oliver who beat Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon and James Corden to win Best Variety Talk Show.
