Officials are still investigating whether or not Glenn was a part of or inspired by outside groups. “I’m not a physician and so couldn’t speak to [whether the suspect was mentally disturbed]”, Ross said.
His firearm, a Ruger Model SR9, 9MM, semi-automatic pistol with obliterated serial numbers was recovered at the scene.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross says, “Other than the rantings he had in that letter, we don’t know what he was motivated by”.
There was no immediate information on the identity of the gunman, but police said they don’t believe anyone else was involved at this time. Commissioner Ross said they had been shot in the chest. Young was sitting in her patrol vehicle, police say, when she was ambushed by Glenn. The victims were taken to the hospital, where the woman was later pronounced dead at 1:56am. A shootout ensued between Glenn and police officers.
The only clue police have discussed publicly so far is a note found on Glenn’s person after police killed him.
In another incident Friday night in Fort Worth, Texas, two police officers were shot and injured.
The bloody assault began around 11:20 Friday night when Glenn approached Sgt. Sylvia Young’s squad auto at 52nd and Sansom Streets in West Philadelphia and opened fire without warning or provocation, police said.
Glenn then proceeded to engage in a firefight with law enforcement officers, at one point using a female bystander as a human shield. Then he shot her in the leg and kept running. “Absolutely remarkable”, Ross said.
Philadelphia police have identified the gunman in the shooting that left one woman dead and five others injured, including two police officers.
Commissioner Richard Ross said, “This is a completely freaky situation”. Commissioner Ross said the letter contained ramblings about his hatred for police officers and named a specific parole officer as a target. Bullets hit her protective vest and her left arm. Both were in stable condition Saturday. One or two bullets lodged in her bulletproof vest, Ross said.
Police officer, Sergeant Sylvia Young, 46, was ambushed in her police vehicle.
The gunman fired into a bar, which had its door open, wounding a security guard, police said. Both were in stable condition early Saturday.
He later shot into a vehicle, striking a man and a woman. The woman died and the man is expected to survive, he said. The note was titled: “Doomed People”.

Miller, 56, and Young, 46, were in stable condition Saturday at Penn Presbyterian Hospital, as were the three civilians also hit by gunfire. He said he appeared to have mental health issues and was clearly angry at his probation officer. The officer was identified as Ofc.
