Group wants Donald Trump Jr. to apologize over ‘gas chamber’ remark

Donald Trump Jr has been criticised for saying the media would be “warming up the gas chamber” for Republicans if they had behaved like Hillary Clinton. But the media has built her up.

He added: “If Republicans were doing that, they’d be warming up the gas chamber right now”.

As with all things Trump, Trump Jr.’s comments are questionable enough to cause controversy but oblique enough that defenders claim they had nothing to do with the Holocaust.

That was Donald Trump Jr. during a radio interview, and many media outlets jumped on the “gas chamber” part of his comment.

“Everybody knows to what Donald Jr. was referring when he mentioned ‘a gas chamber, ‘ and there’s only one word for it: deplorable”, Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., the senior Democrat on the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement sent to the media.

This isn’t Trump Jr.’s first, second or even third time associating himself with white supremacists.

Nazi Germany used gas chambers during the Holocaust to kill millions of Jews and others, and are now often used in Holocaust references.

Of course, Trump’s campaign blamed the supposed “misunderstanding” on the “liberal, dishonest media” being “so quick to attack one of the Trumps that they never let the truth get in the way of a good smear”. “This is the real Trump”.

The Jewish civil rights group responded by tweeting that it hopes Trump retracts his statement. Hillary Clinton retweeted it on her official account.

Donald Trump Jr. managed to hoover up some of his colorful Dad’s press this Thursday after an appearance on a Philly-area radio show where he appeared to make a Holocaust joke. The bottom line is this – offensive references to the Holocaust are never acceptable, especially from a presidential campaign. I think he’s always been the same guy.
