TottenhamPochettino concern for Harry Kane after win

Kane scored his second goal in as many league games but he was taken off on a stretcher late on after a tackle by Papy Djilobodji, with an initial diagnosis of a twisted ankle.

Hobbling out of White Hart Lane on crutches and wearing a protective boot, Harry Kane provided a worrying sight for Tottenham after the 100th start for his boyhood club.

“We will assess him tomorrow”.

“We need to feel more safe during the games”. But we need to wait on the diagnosis.

“I’m sure there may be a problem with his ligaments but it’s hard to assess today”.

“But if we look at our performance, it’s true that we need to do better”.

Depending on the state of Kane’s injury, he might also miss England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta on 8 October.

Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele were also forced off against Sunderland with hamstring trouble and have had precautionary scans.

“We just hope it is not too bad”, Lloris said.

Who do you think will be the most important person for Tottenham?

Victory lifted Tottenham into third place in the Premier League, their final position last term, to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

David Moyes’ side finished the game with ten-men after Adnan Januzaj received a second yellow card in the closing stages for a foul on Ben Davis, which soured a fearless performance from the Blackcats.

“It’s a good result, but, for the chances we create, it’s hard to understand why it was only 1-0”, said Pochettino. The North-Londoners did get back on track after beating The Black Cats 1-0, with Spurs’ star forward Harry Kane scoring the only goal of the match.

The Dutchman has yet to score this season but he has brought energy to the side in every game he’s appeared in (six matches).

But Pochettino played down the severity of their problems.

It’s a huge blow for a Spurs team that is now in third place in the Premier League and not looking overly effective so far this season – the lone exception being a 4-0 win over Stoke City. I said: “OK, always my door is open” and we decide to stay. “When the team needs you, you need to respond”.

“After the Olympic Games his idea was to leave to go to Germany”.

“It’s the same case for the other players involved in the last Euros”, said Lloris.

Steven Pienaar admitted Sunderland were made to rue missed chances and defensive lapses as a trip to Tottenham Hotspur ended in defeat.

“We felt comfortable and felt like we needed to keep being patient and moving the ball quicker and knew the chance would come”, Alli said.
