It’s finally time for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmys Awards.
It’s worth remembering that, while the Emmys are television’s most prestigious awards, nobody said they were fair. Small blue-ribbon judging panels gave way to the group’s 20,000 members voting on key winners, rendering the awards more democratic.
The show, which follows the ever-expanding battle for the Iron Throne to rule over the Seven Kingdoms based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire”, is nominated again for the best drama series Emmy award, which it won for the first time a year ago for its fifth season.

Executives fret that if streaming titles like “Transparent” and “Master of None” provoke blank stares, viewers will have less of a rooting interest in the outcome, and ratings will suffer.
This is in marked contrast with just five years ago, when eight of the 12 nominated series returned within two weeks of the Emmys.
Maisie always showed up with interesting purses, thought what really drew attention was not the floating pyramid, or the spaceship embroidered cocktail dress, but the tattoo she and Sophie both got.
Still, translating nominees into a commensurate percentage of winners is hardly a certainty.
Picking from the Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy will be a tough call in 2016.
The ceremony started out with an election-year political edge. “The Late Late Show With James Corden”: Turns out Jon Stewart’s heir is not his replacement.
The show also has nominees in the writing and directing categories. “Confirmation”, starring Kerry Washington as American attorney Anita Hill, is the way to go.

“SNL”, btw, is the most-nominated show ever, with 209; it’s in the running for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, and – SPOILER ALERT! – it already won Amy Poehler her first Emmy, after 17 nominations, who with Tina Fey took home the prize for guest actress in a comedy series for their December hosting gig. Former candidate Jeb Bush had a cameo in Kimmel’s opening skit, Emmy victor Courtney B. Vance voiced support for Hillary Clinton and Kimmel jokingly called out producer Mark Burnett, seated in the audience, as the man responsible for Donald Trump.
