Stipe Miocic punches Alistair Overeem’s lights out to remain UFC heavyweight champion

A general view during the UFC 203 event at Quicken Loans Arena on September 10, 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio. Overeem tried to roll out of the takedown, but Miocic followed him to the floor on the scramble and got into top position with less than a minute left in the round. For his efforts, “The Reem” collected a $30,000 check from the sports apparel company.

The other big fight at UFC 203 involved former WWE professional wrestler CM Punk making his mixed martial arts debut.

The rest of the UFC 203 main card also saw Fabricio Werdum defeat Travis Browne via unanimous decision in a contentious heavyweight fight, where Werdum had gotten physical with a member of Browne’s camp after the match.

So, how are payouts determined? Overeem was originally supposed to fight for the UFC title in 2012 but lost the opportunity when he failed a random drug test in Nevada.

Stipe Miocic is an athletic heavyweight who has utilized his boxing and wrestling to succeed in the UFC.

Scotland’s Joanne Calderwood was completely stifled by the grappling attacks of Jessica Andrade in their main card curtain raiser.

Punk performed exactly as you would expect a 37-year old with no previous MMA experience to perform, tapping out of a rear naked choke-hold after taking some real punishment from Gall.

Miocic will be hoping that his reign as UFC Heavyweight Champion will last more than one fight, “I worked so hard to get this belt, why wouldn’t I want to keep it?” he said.

“Yeah you know in life you go big or you go home, ” Punk said afterward.

Joe Rogan has revealed that he’s requested to UFC officials not to interview a defeated fighter immediately after a bout if they’ve been KO’d, following an awkward incident following UFC 203’s main event between Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem on Saturday night. There’s a chance the title he worked all his career for could only be with him for one fight. “But I need to take a little time to myself”.

However, the fight went on and Miocic eventually came out on top. Back in January, Jones responded to a fan tweet asking about just such a matchup with the Cleveland native, writing “If it was for the actual title I would totally do it”.

Following the heated bout, Werdum put his gloved hands to his face and was pretending to wipe away tears when he was confronted by Brownes coach Edmond Tarverdyan. “I feel like I am the better fighter, but not today … but he clearly tapped”.
