Here’s how the NY and New Jersey bombings unfolded
Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage says county authorities told him that the officers shot in Linden are expected to be OK. As a police auto pulled up at the traffic light in front of the shop, the man fired about six shots at the cruiser, then continued down the street with police following him, Bilinskas said.

The 28-year-old, who was born in Afghanistan but is a naturalised U.S. citizen, was named by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as wanted in connection with an explosion in the Chelsea neighbourhood of Manhattan, as well as a pipe bomb which exploded in New Jersey.
The president said the FBI is investigating the incident in Minnesota as a “potential act of terrorism”.
Five people were pulled over on Sunday night travelling in a auto associated with Rahami, but were questioned and released.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosions in NY or New Jersey.
Twenty-nine people were injured about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when a bomb exploded in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood. No one was harmed by the pipebombs that went off in N.J. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility.
An explosion in the Chelsea neighborhood of NY on Saturday, September 17, 2016.
Police confirmed that they were looking for no other suspects. The confrontation sparked a shootout that ended in Rahami’s capture. The official said each time he was taken to secondary screening, he satisfied whatever concerns immigration officials had.
It wasn’t clear when the Elizabeth station would be open, a threat to cause major issues on the Monday morning commute into NY. “Folks around here, they don’t get scared”. The Rahami family lives in the apartment.
To neighbors and customers of his family’s storefront chicken takeout, Ahmad Khan Rahami was a quiet, friendly presence behind the counter who liked talking about cars and was generous with free food.
A neighbor recorded video Sunday night of police questioning Rahami’s brother, father and an unidentified woman and child.
Elizabeth resident Ryan McCann said he often ate at the restaurant and had recently begun seeing the younger Rahami working there more.
“He’s always in there. It’s hard when it’s home”, McCann said.
“We have every reason to believe this was an act of terror”, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said. Both said Monday that appeared to be changing. Cuomo said on MSNBC: “Today’s information suggests it may be foreign-related, but we’ll see where it goes”.
Police in Linden received a call about a man sleeping in a doorway and when one officer, who recognised the person as the bombing suspect, tried to rouse him, Rahami opened fire and hit the officer in the abdomen.
The Associated Press reported that FBI spokeswoman Kelly Langmesser said “a vehicle of interest in the investigation” of the Manhattan explosion was stopped. The wire service cited unnamed government officials.
The officials spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the case.
Also Saturday, a pipe bomb exploded about an hour from the Elizabeth train station in Seaside Park, New Jersey, forcing the cancellation of a military charity 5K run. The race was canceled and no one was injured.
In addition to the two incidents, officials were probing a backpack containing bombs found in a New Jersey train station on Sunday and an unexploded pressure-cooker bomb located blocks away from the Chelsea blast site.

The timing of the incidents – one week after the anniversary of the Sept 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and seven weeks before the USA presidential election – prompted NY officials to tighten security.
