Belgium worldwide De Bruyne steered an inventive low strike underneath the jumping wall to open the scoring 15 minutes into the match at the Etihad Stadium, where Iheanacho, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan also netted to put the result beyond doubt.

Everton can trim City’s lead back to two points if they win at home to Middlesbrough in Saturday’s late game.

An in-form De Bruyne had a free kick kept out by City in a dominant start to the second period, shortly before Sterling had a goal-bound attempt helped over the bar by a an increasingly busy Boruc.

Defending a free-kick one moment, passes from Iheanacho, Nolito, De Bruyne and Sterling exposed Bournemouth’s over-stretched defence and left Iheanacho to tap in his third goal of the campaign.

“The referee saw the action, we will have to accept that”, Guardiola said of the costly altercation.

There was also a double strike at Leicester City where new signing Islam Slimani enjoyed a league debut to remember as the champions rediscovered their domestic form to beat Burnley 3-0. “It was a fantastic performance”.

And on City’s 100 per cent start to the season, Guardiola said: “To win many games in a row in the Premier League is complicated…” He confirmed that he is awaiting the opinion of his doctors on whether Gundogan can start two games in four days having only just returned from a five month lay-off.

Guardiola was clearly less than impressed by the seemingly innocuous question, but after appearing to lose the will to live he did expand on his initial offering, pointing out that guiding City to the Champions League would be a particularly hard ask.

The Chile global scored a goal in each half to inspire Arsenal’s third straight league win, four days after grabbing a late equalizer in a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

After Theo Walcott had chipped in to make it 2-0, Robert Snodgrass reduced the arrears with a 79th-minute penalty following a foul on Hull debutant Dieumerci Mbokani by visiting goalkeeper Petr Cech. Seamus Coleman and Romelu Lukaku also scored for Everton.

The influential Kompany will soon be back in contention after being sidelined since suffering a thigh injury in last season’s Champions League semi-final loss to Real Madrid.
