Teams of officers undertook the painstaking task of examining the area known as Balmer’s Bog on Tuesday, with assistance from the Garda Water Unit.

Ciara Breen was 17 when she was last seen at her home at Bachelor’s Walk in Dundalk in the early hours of 13 February 1997.
Forensic investigators are scouring bog land in Dundalk as part of an 18-year-old search for a missing teenage girl.
Gardaí received two anonymous letters following local and national appeals for information, and they say this new search is just one line of inquiry.
A garda briefing will be held later today to provide fresh details on the investigation’s progress, over 18 years after the teenager first went missing.
Mrs Breen told gardaí that Ciara had not taken any clothes or money with her, and believed she went to meet someone.
The team battled through horrendous conditions yesterday as they tried to find anything which could solve the mystery of her disappearance.

Last year a renewed appeal for information was made on Ciara’s disappearance, with a man in his 50s from Dundalk arrested before being released without charge in April.
