Pep Guardiola: ‘Manchester City complacency not an issue’

De Bruyne was the inspiration behind City’s 2-1 win at Manchester United last weekend with a goal and assist, and he was the team’s creative force here.

City made light work of Eddie Howe’s visitors to maintain boss Pep Guardiola’s 100 per cent start to life in Manchester.

The former Bayern Munich manager stated that he is pleased with the performance of his team so far but insists they need to improve defensively.

“I think City will be better than they were that time around, so if we go there with the mentality we did last time it won’t be a good day for us”.

Bournemouth, whose best first-half moments came when the pacy Joshua King was given a chance to stretch his legs down the left-hand side, began to leave more gaps open at the back from that point on – a fine Boruc stop needed to deny Nolito converting from a swift City counter.

“That is not going to happen when I am here”, Guardiola told reporters after the game when asked if his side would take their start for granted.

“They have quality and when we let them play, they have a lot, a lot, a lot of quality”.

“We are in September”. We have to use the players every few days.

“My happiness does not depend on if I am going to win all the titles or not, so my target is now to be happy today, drink a little bit of wine, and tomorrow prepare the game and of course I am going to try to win our League Cup game [against Swansea City], there is no doubt about that”.

City were inspired to their fifth successive league win by Kevin de Bruyne, who scored the opening goal from a free-kick and then had a hand in each of the next three from Kelechi Iheanacho, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan on his first start for the club.

“When we talk about (Lionel) Messi, maybe he can sit alone in the table, with no-one else allowed”.

“He is a special, outstanding player”, Guardiola said. “He makes everything. Without the ball, he is a fighter; and with the ball, it is clear what he can do”, Guardiola was quoted as saying by Daily Mail Online. He sees absolutely everything. Every time he makes the right decision. That’s why he is a player at another level.

“We are so lucky that we have Kevin de Bruyne with us”.

“We will take care of him and I hope he will enjoy it with us to play his incredible football”.

Arsenal is third after a 4-1 win at Hull.

“It was hard for Jack”.

And nine minutes later the game was as good as over as City doubled their advantage with a superb second goal on the break.
