Wentz comes through again as Eagles beat Bears 29-14

Injuries or lack thereof will be important for the Eagles this season. Both teams do not have extremely high expectations this season, but want to prove that they will be good. The AFC has five 2-0 teams: Baltimore, Denver, Houston, New England and Texas. But the Eagles’ schedule is about to get tougher as they’ll face the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. While Chicago has struggled to hit the.500 mark more often than not in his seven seasons here, they were 8-2 in his previous Monday night appearances. “Being 2-0 is always fun”.

Chicago is favored in large part because Monday is a home game, but the team didn’t have much of a home-field advantage past year.

“I saw him on TV for the first time and I was like, ‘I have to go research this guy, ‘” DeFilippo recalls. “I think, hopefully, this next game we’ll be able to do a little better and each week improve just a little bit”.

After taking a two-point lead into the second half, the Eagles scored late in the third on a tremendous run from Ryan Mathews to put them up by two scores. Instead of a touchdown, the Eagles settled for a 53-yard field goal from Caleb Sturgis and a 9-7 halftime lead.

The Bears will host the Philadelphia Eagles and their rookie quarterback Carson Wentz, a victor in his first-career start in Week 1. It wasn’t flawless. But at the same time, he’s seeing things really well. “He’s seeing things very well and he has a real command in the huddle”. He’s commanding the huddle and the dialogue on the sideline with the players and coaches.

For the night Cutler finished 12-of-17 for 157 yards with no touchdowns and the one interception.

He has yet to throw his first interception in 71 attempts.

It’s not like Wentz is gunslinging his way to massive statistics, throwing the ball downfield and gunning for touchdowns.

On the second, Wentz lofted a 35-yard pass toward the front corner of the end zone in the final seconds of the first half that Jordan Matthews got his hands on, but couldn’t hold. Sturgis originally missed the kick wide right, but the Bears had called timeout, thus giving Sturgis another opportunity.

Now the Bears will wait to see just how severe Cutler’s injury is. Jerrell Freeman and Danny Trevathan need to control the middle of the field, with Akiem Hicks and Eddie Goldman being a force on the line. Jay Cutler didn’t last the entire game because undrafted free agent Destiny Vaeao might have hurt his hand as he forced a fumble, and Brian Hoyer (LOL) completed a decent amount of passes in garbage time but that didn’t matter at all. It also helps when the Eagles force three turnovers and play stubborn defense, which allowed one touchdown (Chicago’s second score came on special teams).

Wentz tossed a screen pass to Trey Burton on the next play to give the Eagles a 22-7 lead with 32 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

And so are Bears fans.

As for Wentz’s progression, Pederson said getting him into a rhythm early was important, especially with quick throws working out of an empty backfield.
