“Hey Noel, you can admit it’s real now”, reads a message accompanying the files, in reference to the company’s refusal to acknowledge the authenticity of the leaks.

Wired reports that, “The files appear to include account details and log-ins for some 32 million users of the social networking site… including names, street address, email address and amount paid, but not credit card numbers”.

“Our human resources will look into this and take appropriate action”, said city of Carmel spokesperson Dan McFeely.

More than 30 million people who registered with the site may be affected, although it’s widely believed some users used bogus data.

The message is directly pointed at ALM’s denial that the data dump is real.

Since many workers juggle work and personal responsibilities, sometimes working from home or on their mobile devices, officials said that compliance with policies that ban personal use of government property becomes a question of how extensive or severe the use is found to be.

Although companies fall victim to data breaches every day, Ashley Madison has struck a particularly sensitive nerve given the risqué nature of the site. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw people taking their lives because of this”.

The officials included several assistant U.S. attorneys, a prominent information technology administration in the White House, a Justice Department trial attorney and at least two Department of Homeland Security employees, one who worked in the agency’s hacking division and another who focused on counterterrorism.

No one is really sure what the fallout from the data dump could be, but it’s possible things may get a bit dicey. Even if your searches indicate an email address was part of the leak, it’s uncertain whether the person associated with that account was using Ashley Madison. Noel Biderman is the CEO of Ashley Madison owner Avid Life Media. “We take very seriously our oversight responsibilities for employee conduct and the use of government property”.

It’s pretty easy, actually – there a couple websites set up like Trustify and cynic.al that let you enter an email address to see if any accounts were set up on the site with that specific address.
