Trailer teasers seem to be the next big thing for large-budget blockbusters these days, giving us a taste of a taste of the movie we’ll be buying tickets for months from now.
Ahead of tomorrow’s full trailer, Sony Pictures has released a brief teaser for their upcoming film Passengers.
Directed by Morten Tyldums from a screenplay provided by Jon Spaiths, the sci-fi romance is set to hit USA theaters on December 21 this year.
With a cast that features two of the most popular actors in the industry right now, Passengers has generated quite a bit of buzz – but quite a bit of that hype existed well before the cameras began rolling.
For everyone to remain alive until they get to their new home, all of the people onboard are put into hypersleep so that their bodies remain in stasis.
However there is a malfunction that causes two passengers to be wakened nearly 100 years early.
Passengers first gained attention when Spaihts’ script was included in the 2007 edition of “The Black List” – an annual list of the best unproduced screenplays circulating around Hollywood. At one point, Keanu Reeves was set to star in the film before dropping out during while the project was still in development. Scripted by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) and directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), the film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt and takes place on a luxury spaceship bound for a human colony that’s 120 years away. As a result, a single passenger (Chris Pratt) is awakened 60 years early.
