Missing Emmy star Dame Maggie gets Downton with the kidding
“Game of Thrones” was awarded three Emmys, leaving it with a record-breaking total of 38 awards. Actors Sterling K Brown, Sarah Paulson, and Courtney B Vance were all individually awarded for their performances as Christopher Darden, Marcia Clark and Johnnie Cochran, respectively.

“Oh my god. Please tell me you are seeing this too”, said a stunned Malek, 35. HBO’s Veep and Game of Thrones killed it, as did FX’s The People vs. O.J. Simpson.
If our 2016 Emmy highlights peaked your curiosity or you still want to catch the whole show, you can still log into ABC.com for the full show and red carpet action.
Paulson, who played prosecutor Marcia Clark, brought her as a guest and singled her out from the stage. The entire series is streaming on Amazon Prime.
Why so low? None of the shows or actors who won appear on broadcast TV. I don’t see her.
The series also won a writing Emmy for D.V. DeVincentis. The series had three nominations for directing for a limited series, movie or dramatic special, but it lost to Susanne Bier for “The Night Manager”.
Also a surprise were lead actors in a drama series: Rami Malek for Mr. Robot and Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black.
Tambor, who plays a transgender character on “Transparent”, called on Hollywood to make him the last non-transgender actor to get such a role. According to the LA Times, Louis-Dreyfus’ sixth Emmy win means she surpassed veteran actress Mary Tyler Moore for most Emmys as a lead actress in a comedy. The second season is on the USA Network website and streaming app.
“Here in Hollywood, the only thing we value more than diversity is congratulating ourselves on how much we value diversity”, quipped Kimmel. But I want to honor the Elliots, right? “Because there’s a little bit of Elliot in all of us, isn’t there?”
Still others say that given the abundance of TV shows these days, many people are unfamiliar with the awards winners at the Emmys. “GoT” actresses Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey also lost to “Downton Abbey’s” Maggie Smith for the Outstanding Supporting Actress award.
Bier, the only woman nominated in the directing in a limited series category, hoped her win would be a step forward for women behind the camera.
Tatiana Maslany, a surprise victor for best actress in a drama for her demanding turn as multiple clones on sci-fi cult favourite “Orphan Black”, sizzled in a sleek red Alexander Wang column dress, a hint of midriff visible through the cut-outs.
Louis-Dreyfus apologized for what she called “the current political climate”, seven weeks before the presidential election. “I think that “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics. I’m so honored to be in this category with these artistic killers”, he said in recognition of his co-nominees. Give them their stories. The Saturday Night Live comedian, who had her website hacked and Twitter account flooded with racist slurs this summer, made light of the situation onstage with the Ernst & Young reps who hold the winners’ names.
