Emmy Awards Wrap-up: Trump, Jimmy, and Surprise Wins
Heading into the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, FX was primed to walk away as one of the night’s top dogs thanks to its dominance in the Limited Series races.

“I think that “Veep” has torn down the wall between comedy and politics”, she said as she accepted her award.
The three-hour ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel was broadcast live on Walt Disney Co-owned ABC and competed against NBC’s popular Sunday Night Football, which generally draws the largest TV audience of the week.
Veteran shows dominated the awards at this year’s Emmys, which were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, with HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and “Veep” winning best drama and best comedy, respectively, for the second straight year.

Indian-American Aziz Ansari shared a writing Emmy with Asian-American Alan Yang for their comedy series “Master of None”, while black actress Regina King won for her role in “American Crime” and African-American comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele were honored for their sketch series “Key & Peele”. In earning her 5th consecutive award this year, Dreyfus has made Emmy history for most wins in the category.
Ben Mendelsohn won for Supporting Actor in a Drama for the second season of “Bloodline”, the Netflix original family drama. Overall it won 12 Emmys this year, out of 23 total nominations.
John Oliver, who has been arguably the most effective critic of Trump in late night during this election cycle, won the Emmy for variety-talk series for his HBO show “Last Week Tonight”. You just hope you’ll also get amusing.
Several stars took aim at divisive Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, either in prepared jokes or in acceptance speeches.

After accepting the award, Louis-Dreyfus joked that she wanted to apologize for the current political climate. “I want to honor the Eliotts because there’s a little bit of Eliiot in all of us, isn’t there?”
