Jets’ Marshall (knee) feeling better, hopes to play Sunday

So did the pain that coursed through his left leg in Thursday’s win over Buffalo.

“My knee and leg were twisted in so many different areas and ways that I not only thought my knee was messed up, but I thought my foot and everything was pretty much gone”, Marshall said.

“It’s a blessing, I’m going into Year 11, and I just didn’t want it to end that way”. While Marshall returned to the game and seemed okay, new reports are coming out suggesting a possible MCL injury for the New York Jets star. “Anything better than having surgery is a blessing”. Marshall’s first season with the Jets was a good one, as he had 109 catches for 1,502 yards and a career-high 14 touchdowns.

Asked directly if he has a sprained knee, Marshall smiled and said, “It was only a couple days ago”.

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, and as noted during Sunday’s Football Night in America on NBC, Marshall emerged from the incident with an MCL injury”, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk said.

“I’ll be able to tell whether he will be healthy enough to play”, Bowles said, “or whether he’s not going to be able to play”. Fellow Denver wideouts Rod Smith and Javon Walker were both sidelined because of injury, which opened the door for Marshall, then 23 years old.

“My belief and the school I come from is: Don’t rule me out until Sunday”, Marshall said Monday. “I feel good. And I’m going to work my tail off to get out there and be out there with the guys”. “I thought I’d be fishing in my backyard in Florida”. “Right now, I feel stable”.

Somehow Marshall managed to return in the game and finished with six catches for 101 yards though. Marshall said he hopes to suit up Sunday in Kansas City, but it will be up to the coaches and doctors.

“He’s tough”, coach Todd Bowles said.

Marshall will be lobbying to get into the game for several reasons.

“I try to be relentless in my rehab, especially with Quincy (Enunwa) playing the way he’s playing and Eric Decker playing the way he’s playing”, Marshall said. And it’s my fault that none of my teams have been to playoffs. I don’t want that to happen again this year.

“I hear Quincy in the background saying, ‘I’m taking your spot, ‘” Marshall joked. I’m really like the third receiver.

Bowles said the Jets wouldn’t necessarily worry about a reoccurrence or lingering of the injury when determining Marshall’s availability. Jenkins hasn’t played since starting at outside linebacker in the second preseason game.
