‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Veep’ win big at 2016 Emmy Awards

If you missed the Emmys, you may have missed host Jimmy Kimmel’s joke about Maggie not deserving her award because she wasn’t there.

During his opening monologue for the show, Kimmel made a playful jab at the noticeably absent “Downton Abbey” actress, who has been nominated for an Emmy nine times, won three times and never been present to pick up her award.

“Oh my god. Please tell me you are seeing this too”, said a stunned Malek, 35. Her home is in the United Kingdom, and she seems to be a genuinely quiet private person who doesn’t fancy the spotlight altogether much.

Fan favorite “Game of Thrones”, went into Sunday’s show with a leading 23 nominations and won a total of 12 Emmys, including for best drama series, directing and writing. “It’s called the Maggie Smith Rule”, Kimmel joked early on in the show. “We’re not mailing this to her. Maggie, if you want this, it’ll be in the lost and found”. “Our show started out as a political satire but it now feels like a sobering documentary”, she quipped, in an oblique reference to the presidential campaign.

He added, “This year she had a Sunday ceramics class she couldn’t get out of”. MTV’s “Video Music Awards” lost a third of its audience last month compared with the year before.

“The more I learned about the real Marcia Clark. the more I had to recognize that I along with the rest of the world had been superficial and careless in my judgment”, said Paulson, accepting her first Emmy. She’s Downton Absent, is what she is. Why do we keep nominating this woman?

“I have a message for you, Lame Maggie Smith, if you’re even bothering to watch”, he said.

He also challenged her to “get (her) Dowager Count-ass over here”. The HBO hit show, based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novel series, competed with “The Americans”, “Better Call Saul”, “Downton Abbey”, “Homeland”, “House of Cards” and “Mr. Robot“.
