NY increases security ahead of U.N. General Assembly
Rahami, a 28-year-old naturalized US citizen from Afghanistan, is being sought for questioning for the recent bombings in Seaside, New Jersey and the five explosives found in a backpack near a train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey, according to CBS News.

Saturday night’s blast in the bustling Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan injured 29 people, and another unexploded device made out of pressure cooker was found several blocks away.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the Saturday night blast in Manhattan that injured 29 people didn’t appear to be linked to worldwide terrorism.
Yes, a pipe bomb exploded in a New Jersey seaside town on Saturday morning shortly before thousands of runners were due to take part in a charity race for United States marines and sailors.
According to The New York Times, Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage spoke about the investigation into the bomb following its discovery Sunday, and explained that New Jersey State Police and FBI agents worked through the early hours of the morning to ensure that train tracks and platforms were thoroughly searched for further signs of explosives, as well as all municipal garbage cans.
No injuries were reported after the blast in Seaside Park, Ocean County but it was the first of a series of incidents that has put the U.S. on edge.
“This guy”, of course, is Ahmad Khan Rahami, a 28 year-old naturalized citizen of Afghan descent, who the Federal Bureau of Investigation identified just hours ago as a suspect.
But after an additional device was found Sunday night outside a restaurant in Elizabeth, New Jersey, authorities seem to be shifting their thinking.
As for how investigators zeroed in on him as a suspect, three law enforcement officials said the clues included a fingerprint lifted from one of the NY sites and “clear as day” surveillance video from the bombing scene that helped identify Rahami. He said that the explosion wasn’t controlled, and the “suspicious devices” found by the bomb squad could have “certainly killed or injured many”. The race was cancelled and no one was hurt.
It’s reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York Police Department stopped the people on a bridge between the boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island.
New Jersey Transit says service has been suspended between Newark Liberty Airport and Elizabeth.
Authorities also plan to question Rahami over another incident, an explosion in New Jersey on Saturday. The vehicle in question is reportedly connected to the NY bombing, possibly one that was caught on one of the many surveillance videos from the area in question.
ABC News and The New York Post, citing unnamed sources, reported that five people were taken into custody following a traffic stop on the bridge, according to the USA Today. He says the man was initially presumed to be a vagrant, but police officers who responded quickly realized it was Ahmad Khan Rahami.
Mobile phones were discovered at the site of both bombings, but no Tannerite residue was identified in the New Jersey bomb remnants, in which a black powder was detected, said the official.
