Leonard Fournette slams defender to the ground with a devastating stiff arm

“Because they thought just like us, ‘Hey, this thing is done”. “Let’s get some food”.

Fans have harped on the Tigers for running the ball too often on first down, and that’s been well-aimed. Danny Etling was 0 for 6 with an interception and a fumble in the second half.

“This is more of what we were in search of”, said Miles of his quarterback’s performance.

Instead, it turned into fright night in Death Valley. His second resulted in a 7-yard touchdown pass to Fred Ross.

While Fournette gets nearly all of the attention on LSU’s offense, Tigers quarterback Danny Etling looked surprisingly sharp on the drive.

The game was on the line.

STATE SECONDARY: The Bulldogs are No. 12 in the 14-team SEC in pass defense efficiency and 83rd nationally with a 132.3 rating, so that bodes well for Etling. But until the Aggies perform well against SEC competition, we can’t see how they deserve to be ranked. “We certainly have visited with him and would think that he understands his role”. Missouri hosts Delaware State after losing to Georgia by one point last week. Jacksonville State, which has been LSU’s only victim, could probably beat both of State’s opponents so far.

Then late in the third quarter, Leonard Fumble-nette struck just after the Bulldogs pulled within 23-6 on a 37-yard field goal by Westin Graves.

-Miles also said he expects star running back Leonard Fournette to be back in the lineup for Saturday, which would help alleviate some of the pressure from Etling.

“He’s one of the most ball-secure runners that I’ve ever had”, Miles said. I’m sure he’ll continue to be.

Fournette, who sat out last week’s victory over Jacksonville State, ran over tacklers for his 5-yard TD and burst into open field for his 25-yard score.

Williams, who did not play in the win over SC, was 5-of-8 for 94 yards and a score; and had the one-yard dive for another. Texas A&M put up 231 rushing yards at Auburn Saturday in a 29-16 win. It was time for Fournette to make the second half a breeze.

“He definitely took advantage of the opportunity, but that didn’t surprise me at all”, Moore said.

Regardless of how you answer that question, it’s a win for LSU and in their current position, they’ll take them however they can. LSU went three-and-out and after a punt, MSU took over at its own 23 yard line.

Now, someone’s going to get a nice win, and someone’s going to seem sort of in shambles.

LSU had not scored a point in the first quarter all season. When I saw the ball in the air ‘About time it happened’. “He gave us a spark”. “I got their back”. “We’ve got to clean that up”.

Harris completed 13-of-25 passes for 139 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions during those two games. “We need to finish a little better”.

Offensively, Mississippi football is averaging 316.4 yards in passing and 144.1 in rushing.

It wasn’t only that the junior transfer from Purdue completed 14 of 20 passes for 172 yards in the first half. “He was pretty active; missed on maybe two throws and made plays with his feet”. “They had a bunch of plays they went full protection, chipped the ends, the quarterback had a lot of time”.

22 Years since LSU had a 1-2 record.

“He came in and did a heck of a job”, said Fitzgerald of Williams. “It wasn’t ideal in any way, but we got started”.

After struggling in the first half and not taking advantage of opportunities in the third quarter, the Mississippi State football offense finally came alive. Outside linebacker Arden Key had two for -17 yards.

The other chance ended on a seven-yard sack of Fitzgerald. Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux had one for -3 yards, and cornerback Tre’Davious White had a half sack for -3. But the brief decision to dabble in the unknown, maybe to appease those who have called for it, left LSU in a tough situation late in the game.

When Mississippi State (1-1) travels to Baton Rouge to face No. 20 LSU (1-1) on Saturday, the SEC West showdown will feature two sharp defenses and two offenses searching for their identity.
