Browns down another starter as McCown out with injury

Late in the first quarter Sunday, McCown left for the locker room to have his left shoulder examined.

The Browns need a backup quarterback after left shoulder injuries sidelined both Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown.

The Browns will likely sign a veteran free-agent quarterback to back up Kessler.

Whitehurst, a 34-year-old journeyman, is now onto his fifth team after spending multiple years with the Chargers and the Seahawks, and single seasons with the Titans and Colts the past two years. He last played for Indianapolis and Tennessee in 2015, when he saw the field in five contests and finished with 150 passing yards, zero touchdown throws and an interception. “Hopefully that’s just going to get better”. “Cody has to be the guy, but we are also going to keep searching around and making sure that we cross every T and dot every I and see if there is somebody else out there that can help our football team”. I’m just excited to see where it goes. Pettine refused to say on Tuesday whether Johnny Manziel or Austin Davis will start this weekend’s game against the Bengals. I’m sure this is exactly how the Browns envisioned it when they took Kessler in the third round of the 2016 draft.

However, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that McCown’s shoulder injury could be something more serious than soreness or a bruise and the quarterback would undergo and an MRI on Monday on his shoulder. “The fact that you can get two points on it now, that forced them to have to get into the end zone at the end”.

At the very least, the team is feeling a lot better going into its Week Three game at Jacksonville Sept. 25. “Here we go. Here we go, right?” For the second straight week, the starting quarterback left the game due to injury. “I have the mindset to go in as the starter”. Most notably number two overall pick Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles, who torched the Browns in week one.

“Like I said, pretty soon maybe I’ll be playing”.
