Wentz survives first road test, leads Eagles to victory

“I’m concerned”, Cutler said after the game. He said further examination was scheduled for Tuesday. The touchdown was the third of Wentz’s career. And he averaged just 5.5 yards per attempt, attacking the Bears with mostly short and intermediate passes.

Cutler completed 12 of 17 passes for 157 yards but was sacked three times.

In just his second game, Wentz has shown he is truly the real deal in Philly.

“I feel like we started good”, said defensive lineman Akiem Hicks, as the Bears forced Philadelphia to settle for three field goals on deep drives in the first 30 minutes.

Make no mistake about it, the Philadelphia Eagles have found their franchise quarterback. The dialog on the sideline with players and coaches is something a nine, 10-year vet would do. On the Eagles’ next drive, Wentz successfully moved the offense to the Chicago 35 with eight seconds left in the first half. Any team that plays the Eagles will be in for a dogfight. The Eagles couldn’t take advantage of that turnover, but they continued to pressure Cutler.

The Bears have now been outscored 33-7 in the second half in two games this year and have started 0-2 in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1997-98. “I think the sky’s the limit for us”.

The Bears are now 1-8 at home under John Fox and have their first six-game home losing streak since 1997.

“The throws were possession type throws”, Eagles coach Doug Pederson said. “But it was (just another) football game and we came out of it with a win”. If not for a Connor Barth missed field goal, Chicago would have had a halftime lead and perhaps something to build off of in the second half. The next one counted, and was drilled perfectly.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (11) throws a pass during the first quarter against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Mondya night.

That gave Wentz the ball with momentum and the rookie kept the good times rolling.

That made it 16-7, and an interception by Nigel Bradham followed on the first play following the kickoff.

Philadelphia didn’t get the best showing from the offense against the Bears.

Against the Texans, Jeffery had four catches for 105 yards, including a 54-yarder to set the stage for veteran Eddie Royal’s 19-yard touchdown reception.

On the following series, Cutler opened with the pick and headed for the locker room, aware, he said, that he was physically hindered too much to help the team. There were a couple instances when Eagles receivers couldn’t come up with the catch, such as when Matthews had one go through his hands near the left pylon on a would-be touchdown late in the second quarter.

NOTES: The Bears played again without regular starting cornerback Kyle Fuller, who had minor knee surgery in August.
