The Royle Family actress took a leave of absence from her starring role in the West End show with stress and exhaustion in mid-May, returning nearly two months later in July. Her other theatre work includes A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hedda Gabler, Flare Path and Legally Blonde.
On of the countries best loved actresses is heading back to Liverpool to reprise one of her most highly praised roles!
The tour will also take in Stoke, Aberdeen, Woking, Canterbury, Glasgow, Nottingham and Llandudno but those performances will star a different leading lady, yet to be revealed.
Smith will not appear at all the venues on the tour, with further casting will be announced shortly.
Michael Mayer’s new production, featuring the showstopper Don’t Rain On My Parade, transferred to the West End earlier this year, following its record-breaking run at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
The actress’s performance in the musical has been described by critics as “an unforgettable star turn”, “hilarious, glorious, touching” and “all-singing, all dancing, all-joking and all-soul too”.
The 35-year-old will play the vaudeville character – made famous by Barbra Streisand in the 1968 film – at selected dates, including the week in Liverpool in March.
