Jose Mourinho: Referee mistakes and defensive errors cost Manchester United
Paul Scholes believes Jose Mourinho must draw up new plans for his Manchester United midfield after Watford punished a “sloppy” Red Devils show at Vicarage Road.

The United skipper had a poor match as United were outplayed and defeated 2-1 by Manchester City in last Saturday’s derby.
The Spaniard hasn’t started a Premier League game since the opening weekend against Bournemouth, but was given a chance in the Europa League on Thursday.
“In the second half, I think we matched that but we need to do that earlier to give ourselves a better platform to win the game”.
“I said, “Yes good start, very good start” but I never was on the moon”. I know it is not a case of clicking your fingers. “The next one we play is always the most important”. “I played with enough good players to win the match”, Mourinho added.
“Obviously when you lose matches then the mood and feeling is not the same”. I think we kept our plan no matter which player played.
“First of all I have players that are not here, I have players that didn’t play here for 90 minutes, so it’s not a problem of accumulation”.
“It is obvious that we left players like [Antonio] Valencia and [Luke] Shaw at home to play and to rest so we go back to a normal team without so many changes”. But was I thinking that my team was ready, perfect, unbeatable?
Despite all the stick Paul Pogba has been receiving, he should be the first name on the teamsheet, who would let the world’s most-expensive player rot on the bench?
Speaking in an interview with United’s website, Mourinho said: “I don’t think it will be easy [to bounce back] but the game will be independent”.
Chris Smalling nearly missed United’s flight back from Holland last night – because he couldn’t have a pee! The pair were both hauled off against Feyenoord meaning they should be relatively fresh for the game, even though neither made a huge impression in the game.

Stand-in captain Smalling admitted “we didn’t play up to our standards” in Holland and that United can ill-afford another loss when they return to Premier League action at Watford on Sunday.
