Authorities said the blasts were looking increasingly like an act of terrorism with a foreign connection.

The pipe bomb exploded Saturday in Seaside Park, New Jersey, before a charity 5K race to benefit Marines and sailors.

Although the incidents shared similarities, including the use of cellphones to detonate the explosives, law enforcement officials told CNN Sunday they could not confirm, at that time, that the explosions were linked.

On Sunday night, FBI agents in Brooklyn stopped “a vehicle of interest” in the investigation of the Manhattan explosion, according to FBI spokesperson Kelly Langmesser. She said no one has been charged.

In New York, law enforcement officials and the mayor said that without knowing who’s responsible or what the motive was, it’s too soon to call the Saturday bombing a terror attack. Cell phones were discovered at the site of both bombings.
