Cleveland RHP Carrasco suffers hand fracture

The injury was the latest blow to the AL Central leader, whose rotation is led by 2014 AL Cy Young Award victor Corey Kluber.

Ian Kinsler was one of three Tigers to get hit by a pitch on Sunday.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal on his right hand in the first inning of Saturday’s game against the Detroit Tigers and is done for the season. Cleveland has been seen as major threat in the playoffs due to their potent top three rotation members – Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, and Danny Salazar. Instead of making excuses, Bauer apologized after the game. “But I think everyone here is ready to go at any time”.

Carrasco is 11-8 this season with a 3.32 ERA.

“I try to go out there and execute pitches at a high level”, he said. “When we do it, it will feel all that much better”. “It’s the same process, the same mindset, and it’s not for a lack of effort”.

It was then that home plate umpire Jordan Baker issued warnings to both benches.

Miguel Cabrera had two hits and needs one to reach 2,500. Andrew Romine pinch-hit for Kinsler in the sixth and stayed in the game to play third base. Bauer tossed his glove to the ground and crouched behind the mound. Kinsler remained in the game, and went to second when Maybin drew a walk.

The win was only Detroit’s second in 15 games against Cleveland this year. Especially Ian. Would never intentionally throw at someone’s head. There is no place in the game for that. I know saying sorry for it doesnt really change that it happened.”. “There were balls down, in, up, out”. “This is the big leagues, and if youre going to hit guys in the head and the kneecap then somethings got to give.”. “I don’t believe that there was any intent on any of them, to be honest with you”. “We don’t need to get too far ahead”. Right-handers Josh Tomlin and Mike Clevinger have been moved from the bullpen and will start this week.

Tigers starter Daniel Norris responded by throwing behind Indians center fielder Rajai Davis (a former Tiger) in the bottom of the third.

Tigers: 3B Nick Castellanos (broken left hand) began taking batting practice in Lakeland, Florida, on Saturday and could be activated off the disabled list early next week. He could return during the final two weeks.

Kinsler left for a pinch hitter in the sixth. They opened the day with a 5½-game gap and three teams to overtake for a wild-card berth.
