Hudson will replace Associate Justice Alan Page, who is retiring.
This is Dayton’s third Supreme Court appointment.
Her selection preserves the court’s racial diversity.
Dayton also praised Hudson’s “concern for individual rights and concern for the rights of the person against the power of the state”.
“During her distinguished 13-year tenure on the Court of Appeals, Judge Hudson has authored more than 1,100 written opinions, demonstrating clearly her unique aptitude for ruling on some of the most challenging legal issues facing our state today”, Dayton said. Her previous roles include assistant attorney general, city attorney for St. Paul and assistant dean at Hamline University Law School.

Hudson was appointed to the Appeals Court by former Gov. Jesse Ventura in 2002.
