Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg wins Singapore GP, re-takes F1 championship lead
Rosberg’s maiden win here was also his third on the trot, after Spa and Monza, and it was especially sweet after the troubles he and Hamilton faced in the same race past year.

Despite the slender margin of Rosberg’s victory, Ricciardo does not believe he could have done anything to change the result. The two-hour race started on the 5.065-kilometer Marina Bay street circuit, which has 23 corners spread over.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes claimed victory at Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday night for the first time, which also allowed him to lead the drivers’ standings. I got stuck behind slower cars in front of me and after three or four laps you lose the advantage and it completely destroys the tyres. “Ricciardo was out of the blocks with awesome pace and it was really exciting at the end”.
“It’s a lot different to when I was here a year ago”, said Hamilton, who emerged from the 2015 Singapore race with a 41-point lead over Rosberg despite retiring. “Ricciardo was out of the blocks with wonderful pace and it was really exciting at the end”.
Daniel Ricciardo met Dynamo at the Singapore Grand Prix but sadly for the Australian, the magician was unable to do anything about Nico Rosberg continuing his winning streak.
However, the move would unintentionally offer Red Bull – running second with Daniel Ricciardo – to attempt the same strategy against Mercedes’ race leading Nico Rosberg.
He now leads Hamilton, who finished third yesterday, by eight points.
Indeed Ricciardo came out from his final pit-stop approximately half a minute behind Rosberg with just 16 laps yet but he quickly ate into the lead, knocking three seconds off a lap for a period.
Speaking after the race, Ricciardo admitted a slight tinge of disappointment not to win, but said he had a good race and wouldn’t leave with any regrets. But having hit his tires pretty hard at the beginning of the stint, they then started to run out of steam a little bit towards the end of the stint.
Back then, both Mercedes drivers had problems the entire weekend, with Rosberg finishing fourth and Hamilton retiring midway through that race.
“But all in all, with everything that’s gone on this year, I’m still in the fight, there’s still a long way to go and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got”.

Rosberg had to been due to pit himself but Wolff says a late call was made to keep the German driver on track after seeing Ricciardo’s blistering first lap on the super-soft tyres.
