You’ll notice when the music finally turns on, you can’t really tell if it’s emitting from the built-in phone speakers or the wired Apple headphones this DIY maniac “drilled” into the iPhone 7. Now it appears the iPhone 7 has not escaped without issue, as some users are reporting an odd hissing sound coming from their new smartphones.

Users are slowly getting their hands on their pre-ordered iPhone 7s and iPhone 7 Pluses, and some of them are already complaining of hissing noises. Along with the tweet, he added a YouTube link, which had a recording of the sound.
The iPhone 7 might be water resistant, but this doesn’t change anything about the way you should handle the device, with Apple itself recommending customers to always avoid exposing the device to liquids despite the IP67 rating. It seems to get worse if the iPhone is under load.
Though several reports also suggest this hissing sound is not just limited to Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, as pretty much all devices make a similar sound when pushed, especially during high-intensity GPU/CPU usage. iOS developer and podcaster Marco Arment described the noise as being comparable to when a laptop’s internal fans whir at a fast pace, adding that, while it could be heard on older iPhones, it appears to be louder on Apple’s latest devices.
Whatever the cause, Apple offered to replace Hackett’s phone and would presumably do the same for anyone else whose phone is experiencing the same problem. However, the Apple Store did not have any stock and it would take at least five business days for a replacement unit to arrive. Numerous users have reported that it happens and is most noticeable during the times when the phone is restored from new.
