Injuries force Browns to go with rookie Kessler at QB

The signing comes after Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown both suffered shoulder injuries in the first and second games of the season.

Information from ESPN’s Pat McManamon and the Associated Press was used in this report.

“I would not want it to be this way, but it is going to be good to get out and see him play”, Jackson said.

The long list of starting quarterbacks in Cleveland includes a current National Football League head coach, several first-round draft busts, veterans who came to Cleveland at the ends of their careers, young quarterbacks who later had more success elsewhere, and both McCown brothers.

Late in the first quarter Sunday, McCown left for the locker room to have his left shoulder examined. Coach Hue Jackson announced the team will be going with its third-round pick from earlier this year this week against the Miami Dolphins. “We’ll see what that statement was all about”. “I think we’ll do everything we can to help the position first and foremost”. “That is what we are going to call it”.

That list includes a rash of forgettable signal-callers, but McCown’s words after the game will not soon be forgotten in Cleveland. “That’s something that I’ve always done, even back in high school or going to USC when I wasn’t the starter there”.

It would truly be a shame if McCown ends up missing significant time with this shoulder injury.

Kessler didn’t look anywhere near ready to play in preseason games.

“I’m getting closer and closer, but the most important thing is we are 2-0”, Suggs said.

He answered that question on Monday, and you might want to have some tissue nearby.

Right now, the verdict is still out on if the Ravens are much improved from a year ago. After a two-year battle to get back onto the field, he was the Ravens top target on offense, recording nine receptions for 102 yards.

To fill out the active roster, the Browns are signing free agent quarterback Charlie Whitehurst.

Jackson said rookie defensive end Carl Nassib suffered a broken hand, will undergo surgery, will sit out against the Dolphins and will be week-to-week after that. “But he was really the man-beater on those plays, and if he doesn’t win, we’re probably in a little bit of trouble”.
