The New York Mets are experiencing a roller coaster of emotions in a 24-hour period as they prepare to wrap up a three-game interleague series against the visiting Minnesota Twins on Sunday.

If the Mets and Giants tie for the first wild card, the Mets host by virtue of going 4-3 against the Giants during the regular season. That 1 – 0 Twins lead lasted until the bottom of the 8inning. They took a 2-0 lead when Conforto blooped a single to center field but didn’t score after Travis d’Arnaud lined into a double play and Lucas Duda grounded out.

Mets star right-hander Jacob DeGrom was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday and will probably miss the rest of the year because of an injury to the ulnar nerve in his right elbow.

Granderson, who recorded his second multi-homer performance of the season, became the first player in Mets history to hit two extra-inning shots in the same game.

Granderson’s two home runs were the Mets’ 200th and 201st of the season, setting a new franchise record for most home runs in a single season.

Potentially losing their most risky hitter – even if manager Terry Collins said he expects Cespedes to be available for Monday’s start of a three-game series with the Braves – should make the Mets feel ill.

Yoenis Cespedes made it 1-all with an RBI single off reliever Ryan Pressly in the eighth.

Gibson gave up three runs and seven hits in five-plus innings, and Brian Boshers followed and escaped a bases-loaded, no-outs jam. Grossman tied his career high for hits with four singles.

In 177 2/3 innings pitched this season, Colon has a 3.14 ERA.

Ynoa, making his first career start after six relief appearances with the Mets since being recalled from Class AAA Las Vegas, pitched 42/3 innings, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out eight. He walked four but stranded them all, allowing his only run on a homer by Eddie Rosario in the fourth.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson announced deGrom’s prognosis hours before NY began giving away Jacob deGrom Hair Hats at the gate. DeGrom, who hasn’t pitched since September 1 due to what the Mets said was a sore right forearm, was expected to return to the rotation Sunday after several successful bullpen sessions. The 2014 NL Rookie of the Year felt fine while throwing a bullpen Friday but sensed a twinge after tossing a baseball in from the outfield during batting practice about 15 minutes later. Matt Harvey and David Wright were lost to season-ending surgeries long ago, and more recently, the same thing happened to Neil Walker. He dropped to 0-6 in seven starts since beating Cleveland on August 1 in his return from the minors. He was replaced in left field by Logan Schafer.

First pitch is at 5:30 p.m. Matz will be evaluated Sunday before determining his next course of action. Recovery time for the operation is expected to be three months, meaning the 28-year-old will be ready for spring training. To make space, the Mets transferred LHP Jonathon Niese to the 60-day disabled list. “He came up and said he just got sick in the runway, ” Collins said.
