A powerful explosion rippled through the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City on Saturday night, injuring at least 29 people.

The backpack had up to five devices, Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage said.

Linden, New Jersey, Mayor Derek Armstead says the owner of a bar found the man sleeping in his hallway Monday morning.

No one was injured in the blast – most likely because registration problems delayed the start of the race, so no one was near the garbage can when the explosion happened.

Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage says county authorities told him that the officers shot in Linden are expected to be OK. Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement descended on an Elmora Avenue home early Monday morning, where Rahami either now lives or used to live. No one was injured in that blast.

Shortly after the blast a few blocks away, investigators found a pressure cooker with dark-colored wiring connected by silver duct tape to what appeared to be a cellphone, officials said.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that although the authorities do not have any warnings about future terror attacks, people need to always be alert and prepared for them.

“The evidence might suggest a foreign connection”, Mr Cuomo said in television interviews on Monday morning. “My operating premise is anytime, anywhere, seven days a week you could have an incident like this”.

Law enforcement authorities believe they have found a link between Islamic terrorism and the bombings in Chelsea, as well as bombs that were discovered last night near a train station outside a bar in Elizabethtown, New Jersey. Spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama will comment publicly later Monday.

Crime scene investigators work at the scene of Saturday’s explosion in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, in New York, Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016.

The two officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about an ongoing investigation. Christian Bollwage, the mayor of Elizabeth, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation was attempting to disarm one of the devices when it exploded at around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Homemade pressure cooker bombs killed three people and injured more than 260 in 2013 Boston Marathon attacks.

The second device was described by a law enforcement official as a pressure-cooker with wires and a cellphone attached to it.

Earlier on Saturday, an explosive device was partially detonated along the route of a charity 5K run for servicemembers in Seaside, New Jersey.

A third incident in Minnesota, where a man stabbed nine people before being shot, is being investigated separately as a “potential act of terrorism”, Obama said. One of the devices exploded as a bomb squad was attempting to disarm it with a robot.
