James Franklin announces that Nyeem Wartman-White will miss the rest of the 2016 season with an injury.

That will be the decision facing the senior middle linebacker after head coach James Franklin announced Tuesday that he will miss the rest of the season, once again, after suffering a knee injury against his hometown Temple Owls. Wartman-White also had two pass breakups. He missed almost all of last season after tearing up his left knee against Temple in the opener.

Wartman-White had been injured twice before on special teams during his career, including in last year’s season-opener against Temple. We thought at first that he was more or less kind of scared that something happened and it actually didn’t. “He hopped up. He felt good. We thought he was OK and it didn’t play out that way obviously”.

“It didn’t play out that way”.

After getting up with trainers, he did some high-steps and jogged back to the sideline.

Soon after that, he was up and looked to be OK, but then he left the field and returned, after halftime, on crutches, with a cast on his right leg. “I’m not anxious about getting hurt again”. He was second on the team with 75 tackles in 2014. I mean, he’s an fantastic athlete, an awesome competitor, a great person, a great teammate. But I know he doesn’t need that. It’s unknown whether that remains an option; Franklin declined to comment on that potential move Tuesday.

In addition to Wartman-White, Penn State (2-1) will likely play without its other two starting linebackers and Brandon Bell (left leg) and Jason Cabinda (left hand) are nursing injuries as well.

He could petition the NCAA for a sixth season, although he’s 24 years old, has graduated from Penn State and seemed lukewarm at best when presented the idea at Big Ten media days in Chicago in July.
