While noting that the issue of refugees and migrants is a global one that “no country can stay immune to”, the premier urged the worldwide community to “act strongly to respond”.

China is also ready to increase communication and coordination with New Zealand in multilateral affairs and promote a healthy and stable development of relations between the two countries, the premier said.

China would also actively explore working with worldwide institutions and developing countries on trilateral cooperation, he added.

The problem can not be solved without the efforts of the countries where the issue of refugees and migrants is started, he said.

On the sidelines of the UN conference, the premier will meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and hold talks with leaders of some countries.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the restoration of China’s seat in the UN. China was one of the founding members of the global organization, but until 1971 its seat was held, with help from the United States and its allies, by authorities of China’s island of Taiwan.

Li arrived here Sunday to attend the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

China also hopes the United Nations could carry out its responsibility of worldwide peace and put the development issue as its priority in order to let people of all countries to benefit from the development, he said.

The U.S. has been actively pushing for China to rein in North Korea and in a recent statement responding to China’s relatively muted response to the tests, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Beijing had an “important responsibility” in North Korea.

The two sides should work together to ensure an early conclusion of negotiations on a China-US bilateral investment treaty (BIT), expand market access to each other, and create better business environment and better cooperation prospect for enterprises from both sides, the premier said.
