SanDisk Unveils World’s First 1TB SD Card
The new 1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I memory card only exists as a prototype.

We have no clue what atrocious price SanDisk is going to ask for its latest invention.
The card was unveiled at Photokina tradeshow 2016. SanDisk first launched the 64MB SD card 16 years ago. The card doubles the size of the 512GB SanDisk Extreme Pro that SanDisk introduced in 2014, and according to the company, could be ideal in a world where higher-resolution video is becoming increasingly popular among those shooting virtual-reality content and footage in 4K and even 8K.
For now, SanDisk’s 1TB SD card remains the Ferrari of memory cards; something we can all be impressed by, yet that few of us will actually own. Over the years our goal has remained the same; continue to innovate and set the pace for the imaging industry.
We also have no idea how much it will cost, but then again it’s not that hard to imagine that it won’t come cheap. To put the 1TB card into perspective, sixteen years ago saw Western Digital releasing the world’s first 64 megabyte (MB) SD card and now with SanDisk they are achieving 1TB capacities.
Western Digital hasn’t shared read or write speeds, probably because they’re not going to be fantastic on such a high capacity card, especially when it’s in the prototype stage.

While most people likely have little use for such a large SD card at this time, there are applications for it in high-end video production, especially with the rise 360-degree and VR content. “This is a unique contest and we invite consumers across India to buy any SanDisk 32GB and above product and participate in the contest” said Rajesh Gupta, Country Manager of SanDisk India & SAARC Retail Sales & Marketing, Western Digital Corporation. The company addresses ever-changing market needs by providing a full portfolio of compelling, high-quality storage solutions with customer-focused innovation, high efficiency, flexibility and speed.
