North Korea claims to have successfully conducted a ground test of a new type of high powered rocket engine, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Tuesday.

The United Nations and others view the North’s space launch development project as a way of hiding tests of missile technology.
Foreign ministers for the United States, Japan and South Korea met in NY on Sunday, ahead of U.N. meetings, to discuss stepped-up measures against North Korea and expand collaboration with one another after Pyongyang’s fifth and largest nuclear test.
He immediately communicated with South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and said through the statement that they vowed, “to take additional significant steps, including new sanctions, to demonstrate to North Korea that there are consequences to its unlawful and risky actions”.
A satellite image dated September 17 provided to Reuters by 38 North, a Washington-based website devoted to analysis of North Korea, showed preparations for an engine test, including a heavy crane over the vertical engine test stand and a shelter that would house the rocket engine.
“No. 3, North Korea can not prevail over the global communities including South Korea, United States and Japan”. The engine was reportedly able to generate 80 tons of thrust during the test.
The test, Pollack said, may be the result of cooperation with Iran.

Kerry stressed out the commitment of the U.S.to the security of South Korea and Japan, and would not be reluctant in ‘rolling back the provocative and reckless behavior of the North’.
“China took part in the unanimously-adopted UNSC Resolution 2270 [adopted in March] and has consistently revealed the position that it will faithfully implement the resolution”, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs deputy spokesperson Sun Nahm-kook in a briefing in Seoul on Tuesday.
The recent nuclear test was North Korea’s fifth and it has been largely criticized as it reportedly causes unrest in global and worldwide security.
The leaders in their meeting discussed new ways to prevent the North from seeking revenue to fund its nuclear and ballistic missiles programs.
