Indian army foils ‘infiltration bid’ in Uri sector

Geeta (C), wife of Ravi Paul, an Indian army soldier who was killed in Sunday’s attack at an Indian army base in Kashmir’s Uri, reacts upon seeing the body of her husband in Sarwa village in Samba district, south of Jammu, September 19, 2016. He did not elaborate. The terrorists, said to be from the Jaish-e-Mohammed whose chief Masood Azhar is based in Pakistan, were killed in an intense three-hour gun-battle.

Reinforcements were also sent to patrol one of the world’s most heavily militarised frontiers, where Indian and Pakistani forces in places stand eyeball to eyeball and sometimes exchange fire, the army official said.

The tables have now turned, and the prime minister-who has said little to rein in his unruly online backers-has come under severe attack.

Indian Army says it will decide ‘time and place to attack’. “We (Government of India) have changed our policy”, said Bhamre. The last was reported on Sept 6 this year and caused no casualties. Both claim the disputed Himalayan territory in its entirety and have fought two wars over it.

They use separate paramilitary forces to guard their lower-altitude frontier, defined by coils of razor wire that snake across foothills marked by ancient villages, tangled bushes and fields of rice and corn.

Modi has vowed to punish those behind the attack in which gunmen hurling grenades stormed the base in Uri at 5.30am on Sunday, killing 17 soldiers in the worst such attack in over a decade.

In January, seven military personnel were killed when six terrorists attacked the Pathankot air base.

“President Ghani strongly condemned the cross-border terror attack and conveyed Afghanistan’s solidarity and support with India against all actions to eliminate the threat of terrorism”, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

More than 80 civilians have been killed in protests, spearheaded by locals, that erupted after Indian security forces killed a popular Kashmiri militant leader in July.

The protests, and a sweeping military crackdown, have all but paralyzed life in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Furthermore, India has also made a decision to diplomatically isolate Pakistan as an immediate measure following the attack on Uri military base in Indian Kashmir.

NEW YORK: Pakistan has categorically refuted the baseless and irresponsible accusations being leveled by senior Indian officials regarding attack in Uri area of Occupied Kashmir.

A senior Army official in Azad Kashmir’s capital of Muzaffarabad said there was no firing along the Line of Control the de facto border where thousands of Indian and Pakistani troops face off against each other
