Twitter to lay off less than 20 employees at India centre
The company did not disclose the number of people being handed pink slips. The exact number isn’t being released and Twitter is also denying to comment on how it would help the affected employees with their exits because of the company’s employee privacy policies and also out of respect for the individuals affected. The move will impact less than 20 jobs.

A big lay off by Twitter is on the cards at the microblogging social interactive platform’s development centre in Bengaluru.
It was also stated that the company is hiring for other positions in their offices across India and around the world. Only the Bengaluru office has engineers.
The employees were part of ZipDial, an Indian mobile communications startup bought by Twitter previous year, the source said. “Twitter remains committed to India as a strategic market for users, partners and advertisers”, said Twitter.
“We can not provide specific numbers of people impacted in Bangalore by this business decision”, said the spokesperson, adding that Twitter would “continue to maintain a presence in Bangalore for other functions”. The company is unable to work in pace with arch-rivals like Facebook since Twitter is only popular among the professional community. Technology site Tech Crunch had reported the deal may have been valued at $30 million to $40 million.
Twitter, meanwhile, had posted mixed quarterly results and disappointing sales guidance.
It said both its second-quarter performance and third-quarter outlook reflect “a continuation of the trends discussed last quarter with less overall advertiser demand than expected”.
Recently in June, during the company’s Q1 2016 earnings call conference, CFO Anthony Noto noted that Twitter will be focusing on live premium content as part of its expansion strategy. Speaking to the Economic Times, Christian Oestlien, the company’s global vice president for product management at the time, said India would be used to develop vernacular products for non-English speaking markets, including in Asia and South America.
