“Lachipora operation against the infiltrating terrorists is still on”, a defence source said.

Colonel Rajesh Kalia said there had been a “ceasefire violation” near Uri, where Sunday’s attack took place, but gave no further details.

Standing firm on its decision, India also called upon the Council at the 33rd Session of the UNHRC to urge Pakistan to terminate all the cross-border infiltration and stop acting as an epicentre of terrorism.

One jawan was killed in an encounter in Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir, just minutes after reports of a infiltration bid surfaced on 20 September in Uri.

The latest infiltration bid comes as New Delhi and Islamabad are locked in a bitter diplomatic war of words following the Uri terror attack, which India has blamed on militants from Pakistan. The bodies have not yet been recovered, they added.

The military drills were to be held at Pakistan Army’s High Altitude School in Rattu, Gilgit-Baltistan and the Special Services Group (SSG) training centre in Cherat area.

Top military commanders warned that Pakistan’s army had raised its defensive posture along the Line of Control (LoC).

On the ceasefire violation incident, an army official in Srinagar said the firing from across the LoC took place between 1.10 pm and 1.30 pm. In view of the attack in the Indian air base at Pathankot in January this year, we note with concern the resurgence of terrorist attacks near Line of control.

A senior Indian army officer told Reuters that his men had spotted a group of intruders trying to cross into Indian territory around Uri on Tuesday.

The Pakistani leadership has evaded questions about Sunday’s deadly attack in which 18 soldiers were killed at an army base in Uri by terrorists belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammad, whose chief Masood Azhar is based in Pakistan.
