It’s a disappointing result for “Blair Witch”, which fell short of tracking. Heading into the weekend, the direct sequel to the 1999 found-footage classic horror film had been expected to earn in the mid- to high-teens.
When James finds a tape of his missing sister’s horrific experiences in the woods of the Blair Witch, he sets out with a group of friends to find his missing sister. Overseas, the film was able to bring in an additional $7 million across 44 different markets, which brings its worldwide totals up to $23.4 million. “Blair Witch” took in $9.65 million, well south of the $20 million it had been predicted to generate. Coming in third was rom-com “Bridget Jones’s Baby”, which generated $8.2 million and a 78 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
This weekend’s third big movie release is Bridget Jones’s Baby. The first of those actually earned 49 percent more in domestic dollars than its predecessor, while the latter completely flopped, grossing just 64 percent of what the first “Zoolander” made.
In the movie, Bridget Jones is back to her old antics. However, if we strictly look at female-led comedies this year, the genre is trending upwards in a huge way.
“To which Adam, 33, replied: “@Simon_Barrett bro I told you we shoulda made that movie about the boring guy who landed a plane in water instead. A poorly received sequel grossed $26 million in 2000.
After 8 surprisingly successful weeks on the chart, Bad Moms finally dropped out of the top 10 this weekend. Open Road distributed last year’s Oscar-winning Spotlight.
