A 19-year-old U.S. Marine who was shot in the head while on military leave in Los Angeles last week has died, KTLA is reporting.

The Los Angeles Police Department says Carlos Segovia was shot once in the back of the head while sitting in a auto Friday night.
According to the Times, Capt. Peter Whittingham of the Los Angeles Police Department said that the shooting is “absolutely a mystery”.
The Marine had no known connection to gangs or other illegal activity, police said, and no suspect has been identified in the attack.
Segovia confronted the group and asked them to get away from his auto before being shot in the head, his family told KTLA.
A family friend, Claudia Perez, told the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/2cCJbf0 ) that the Marine was visiting family and friends while on leave from Camp Pendleton near San Diego.
Lopez had also been trying to transfer her son to another hospital where she said she hoped there would be less pressure to take him off life support.
Segovia worked with LA on Cloud9, helping to develop the Teen Project program and supporting the homeless community through Street Team Soldiers, according to the organization.
Perez said he is being kept on life support but acknowledged that the family eventually would have to make a decision about ending medical care.
No suspects were identified and investigators did not have a motive.
Police contacted the U.S. Marine Corps, which notified his family.

“He was a motivator”, Perez said. He joined the Marines approximately six months ago, after finishing high school. They said that he was in town over the weekend to do volunteer work. “We were fortunate to witness Carlos become a fine young man who graduated from the Marine camp earlier this year and started his service with the US Marines”. We are heartbroken over this tragedy.
