Pochettino confirms Kane diagnosis, won’t set target for return

Reports suggest that the star striker is in major doubt after sustaining ankle ligament damage late in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Stoke City at White Hart Lane.

England global Kane scored the victor as Spurs overcame Sunderland 1-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.

“We can not guess if eight, 10, four, one – it is impossible to assess today and to know how long it will be”.

“We all felt guilty, but the most important thing is the way you react and today was a very good signal for the manager, the club and the fans too”.

Thankfully, such a potential disaster was averted this season with this summer’s purchase of Dutch global striker Vincent Janssen.

Reports have suggested the England worldwide could be out for eight weeks and if he does not return until the end of November, the 23-year-old will miss eight Premier League games, including three London derbies against Arsenal, West Ham and Chelsea in November and four Champions League games.

If we’re really honest with ourselves, it’s not as if Tottenham have been playing with the “real Harry Kane” so far this season.

The north London derby is on 6 November, towards the end of the normal recovery period for the injury.

Harry Kane was the hero for Tottenham, netting home the game-winner before leaving with an ankle injury.

Janssen scored 27 goals for AZ last season but is yet to open his account for his new club. We need to wait for the diagnostics. But the biggest spotlight falls on Spurs’ Dutch striker, who now has the world at his boots but the expectations of the world on his shoulders.

The France captain added: “We have a competitive team and are fully confident in every player”.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are preparing to face Gillingham in the EFL Cup tomorrow (21 September) and Pocehttino revealed he is still unsure about the fitness of Moussa Dembele and Eric Dier heading into the game. Vincent arrives in a good moment – he’s ready to compete.

With that in mind, FootballFanCast feel compelled to ask the question; is Janssen capable of filling Kane’s void?

That’s not to say that, if asked, Janssen could replicate Kane’s role in the squad.
