Amazon Wind Farm Texas is a 253-megawatt wind farm, which according to Amazon will generate 1,000,000 megawatt hours of wind energy annually, enough to power 90,000 typical U.S. homes. Dubbed “Amazon Wind Farm Texas”, this new 253-megawatt wind farm will soon take shape in Scurry County, Texas.
Richardson expects the Colbeck’s Corner project near Amarillo to provide the equivalent of about 60 percent of Johnson & Johnson’s electricity consumption in the US, and 25 percent globally.
Declan Flanagan, Lincoln Clean Energy’s founder and CEO, echoed these sentiments, noting, “We applaud Amazon’s leadership in directly purchasing renewable power”. It represents a more than 60 percent jump in the generation capacity of the renewable energy projects announced by Amazon so far.
Greenpeace added, “Unfortunately, despite its dominant position and well established business model, AWS has dropped further and further behind its competitors in building an internet that runs on renewable sources of energy, and is the least transparent of any company we evaluated”.
The new wind farm will be built, owned and operated by Lincoln Clean Energy, and Amazon stated that it will purchase about 90 percent of the power it generates.
The project is expected to generate 1,000,000 megawatt hours of wind energy every year, enough to power 90,000 American homes for a year.
The project, launched with Lincoln Clean Energy, will include over 100 turbines. LCE is a leading developer of wind and solar projects across the United States and is a portfolio company of I Squared Capital, a global infrastructure fund. There are others in Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.
