Bears’ Jay Cutler will avoid surgery for now, teammates not as lucky
NFL Network reported earlier Tuesday that Chicago was “preparing for a lengthy absence” for Cutler.

Brian Hoyer replaced Cutler on Monday and presumably would start Sunday against Dallas if Cutler can’t play.
Whether Cutler is available for those 14 games is another matter; he’s expected to have more tests on his right thumb on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler left last night’s game wearing a cast over his injured right (throwing) thumb, so it’s reasonable to be anxious about it.
Trevathan, a former University of Kentucky star, was hurt in Monday night’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
To his credit, after the game Cutler said he had no issue with what McPhee had done. He threw a crucial interception right before he left the game that set up the Eagles for an easy score.
Fox wouldn’t say if Cutler injured his thumb further in Houston, referring to the injury he suffered in 2011, which requred surgery. But the good thing is that we’ve got a bunch of good guys in there.
He was 12 of 17 for 157 yards with an interception and a lost fumble before leaving with an injury. He’s missed 15 games because of injury since 2010. During his postgame press conference, Cutler had his right thumb in a cast.
Fox said the thumb “didn’t appear” to affect Cutler in practice last week and he was a full participant.
It may actually behoove the Bears to sit Cutler for a week or two, using his injury as an excuse to take him off the field, even if he feels healthy enough to play. “I don’t know if he was left in any longer than anyone could’ve guessed”.

“I like our roster, I like our choices and we’ll do everything we can to get everybody ready for Dallas”, Fox said. “My understanding is you’re going to have conversations”, he said.
